"Living on a boat requires careful consideration of essential equipment such as water makers, generators, and scuba compressors to ensure a comfortable and sustainable lifestyle."

Boat Profile: Sailing Zatara’s 585 Privilege Catamaran

In 2015, the Whitaker family embarked on a sailing journey around the world, driven by a desire to break away from the uninspiring life of suburbia and find purpose beyond chasing money. After a year sailing halfway around the world on a 2013 55ft Oceanis Beneteau yacht, the family felt the need to upgrade to a larger and more stable catamaran. After searching the globe, Keith and Renee found themselves in Greece where they fell in love with their 2006 585 Privilege catamaran. This article gives you a quick rundown of their boat as well as some of the technical specifications.

Previlege Marine

The 585 Privilege Catamaran, as featured in the Sailing Zatara‘s video highlighted above, is a vessel that redefines luxury and adventure on the high seas. Designed by the late French naval architect Marc Lombard and manufactured by Alliaura Marine, this 58-foot catamaran is a testament to exceptional craftsmanship and thoughtful design.

Exceptional Design

A standout feature of the 585 Privilege Catamaran is its spacious and practical layout. The 2006 Privilege 585 Catamaran, purchased in Greece, was chosen for its spacious layout, sturdy construction, and six-cabin configuration, accommodating the large Whitaker family’s needs. In this Sailing Zatara’s boat tour, they showcase the vessel’s grand main salon, separate cabins for each family member, and unique elements such as Kate’s “Hobbit Hole” and the Captain’s Peak. This catamaran is not merely a vessel; it’s a floating paradise for adventure-seekers.

The Ultimate Choice

Sailing Zatara’s selection of the 585 Privilege Catamaran reflects the fact that their boat is their home, catering to a large growing family engaged in homeschooling and requiring ample space for everyone, including guests. In an earlier video released in 2018, Renee explains that after examining multiple catamarans, they chose the Privilege due to its “durability, strength, and layout, and the fact that it is just a really well-made vessel inside and out.”
